The Zetor 8540 from the UR3 series has a dedicated page with more than 40 matching parts, such as trailer couplings, electrics and brake and transmission parts.
The Zetor 8540 from the UR3 range is a tractor many owners still maintain themselves. More than 40 parts fit it, from GRANIT, LUK, Walterscheid, ROCKINGER and Scharmüller, and they cover the brakes, the engine and everything at the back of the tractor.
If the tractor pulls to one side under braking, start with the wheel brake cylinders. A leaking cylinder soaks the lining in fluid and that side loses grip. In that case renew the linings as well, and bleed the system carefully wheel by wheel afterwards until no more air comes through. For the clutch there is an organic clutch plate. Check which way round it goes before fitting, as the hub is often offset to one side.
Sealing the engine is covered by a cylinder head gasket, a valve cover gasket and a crankshaft seal. Before a new head gasket goes on, clean both faces thoroughly and check the head for flatness. Tighten the head bolts in the correct sequence and in stages. It makes sense to renew the valve cover gasket at the same time.
When the oil pressure light comes on, connect a mechanical gauge before replacing the oil pressure switch. That tells you whether the switch is faulty or the pressure really is low. An alternator, a steering valve and a gas strut for the rear window, door or roof hatch round off this side of the tractor.
If the pin and guide of a drawbar have worked loose in their housing, the play grows with every jolt from a trailer. Replacing it early saves wear on the rails as well. With a pick-up hook, look at the face where the drawbar eye rests. A clear groove worn into it means the hook is due before it fails under load.
The type plate tells you whether your tractor is an 8540. If the old part carries a number, as clutch plates and wheel brake cylinders often do, compare it with the reference number listed with the product. That avoids buying a part that looks right but is not.
Other Zetor tractors, including the rest of the range, are on Zetor parts, where each model of the brand with its own selection of parts has a dedicated page.
