Lighting and engine parts for the Renault 68-12: this page for the R series brings together more than 70 parts, so you can get back to work quickly.
Blue smoke, hard starting and rising oil use usually mean a Renault 68-12 is ready for an overhaul. For that job, and for the braking system, there are more than 70 replacement parts that fit this tractor, supplied by GRANIT, KS, Optibelt, Bosch/Rexroth and Cobo.
The rebuild side covers piston and cylinder sets, separate piston ring sets, connecting rod bearings, main bearings and connecting rod bushes. To close everything up again you get a cylinder head gasket set and individual gaskets, for example for the exhaust. Around the block there are injection nozzles, a water pump, radiator hoses such as the top hose at the thermostat, V-belts for engine cooling and a stop cable.
Measure the crankshaft journals before ordering shells. A crank that has already been reground needs undersize bearings, and a standard connecting rod bearing simply will not fit. Always replace main and big end bearings as a full set, even when only one shell shows wear. After fitting a new head gasket, torque the head bolts in the specified sequence, working from the centre outwards.
If the rebuilt engine smokes black or knocks hard, have the injectors tested. Always refit a nozzle with a fresh sealing washer, otherwise combustion gas blows past the seat. While the engine is apart, consider renewing the water pump and hoses as well if they have seen many seasons, because a freshly rebuilt engine cooked by a split hose is a painful waste of work. Do not overtighten the V-belt, as that loads the water pump bearings. And if the engine is reluctant to stop, a stretched or sticky stop cable is the usual reason.
If the tractor pulls to one side when braking, or fluid is weeping at a wheel, there are wheel brake cylinders and repair kits for the brake cylinder. For the cab there is a gas strut for the rear window. After fitting a wheel brake cylinder, bleed the system until no more air bubbles appear.
Check the type plate to be sure you are working on a 68-12 and not a related model with a different number. Where the old part carries a number, as injectors, gaskets and water pumps often do, use that reference to find the replacement quickly. For pistons and rings the bore decides: measure the cylinder or read the size stamped on the piston crown.
Other Renault tractors from the same line each have their own page listing the parts that genuinely fit them:
