Starter motors 12 volt for tractors, forklifts and agricultural machinery

Almost every tractor, forklift and compact machine runs on 12 volts. When replacing one, check the number of teeth and the output in kW. Together with the flange dimensions they decide whether it fits. From GRANIT, MAHLE, Bosch, Denso and HELLA.

Starter motors 12 volt

Most tractors, forklifts and compact machines run a 12 volt system. If your machine is slow to start, you only hear a click, or the engine turns over sluggishly, a worn starter motor is often the cause. Do check your battery voltage first, though: an old or half-empty battery produces exactly the same symptoms and is regularly mistaken for a faulty starter.

Which one fits your machine?

Four things need to match. The voltage, of course, plus the number of teeth on the pinion, the output in kW and the mounting: flange diameter, hole spacing and mounting angle. You can simply count the teeth on your old starter. All remaining dimensions are listed in the specifications of every item, so you can compare them with your old part before ordering.

With or without reduction gear

A gear reduction starter has a gearbox between the electric motor and the pinion. That makes it smaller and lighter at the same torque, and it draws less from your battery. If the dimensions match, this type is almost always a sound replacement for a classic direct-drive starter, often an improvement.

Got a part number?

If there is still a number on your old starter, from Bosch, Denso, MAHLE or HELLA for instance, type it into the search bar. That is the quickest and most reliable way to find the right one. Stuck? Send us a photo of the type plate and we will look it up for you.
