The Fendt Farmer 312 (Typ 199) is the most powerful tractor in the Farmer 300 LSA series and was built between 1987 and 1993. A total of 5,444 units rolled off the production line, spread across four technical versions: T 199.210 (3,148 units, 1987–1990), T 199.220 (1,123 units, 1990–1991), T 199.221 (1,047 units, 1991–1993) and T 199.222 (126 units, 1991–1993). As the only model in the Farmer 300 LS range, the 312 was exclusively available with four-wheel drive, which made sense given the power output. This set it apart from the smaller 310 and 311, which were initially still available with rear-wheel drive only.
Power comes from an MWM six-cylinder inline engine. Up to 1990 this was the MWM D 226-6.2, which was then replaced by the MWM TD 226.B-6. Both are water-cooled four-stroke six-cylinder inline engines with direct injection, overhead valves, pressure-fed lubrication with oil cooler and thermostatically controlled dual-circuit cooling. The first version produced 115 hp, while the turbocharged TD variant (Bosch multi-hole injectors, Bosch centrifugal governor) delivered 120 hp. Displacement is 6,200 cc. Fuel delivery is handled by a Bosch inline injection pump.
Until 1991, a fully synchronized Fendt overdrive gearbox was fitted with 21 forward and 6 reverse gears (21F/6R). From 1991, the 21/21 reversing gearbox became available, offering 21 speeds in both directions plus three high-range gears. Top speed is 40 km/h.
Standard tyres are 14.9 R 28 front and 18.4 R 38 rear.
The hydraulic pump is a Bosch tandem gear pump with a flow rate of 74 litres per minute at 180 bar. Maximum lift capacity at the rear linkage is 5,800 kp. An optional front linkage with a maximum of 3,000 kp was also available. The power steering works via the ZF Lenktrieb pendulum front axle, type APL 700 F6, with automatic differential lock through the "Locomatik" system, controlled electro-hydraulically via a rotary switch with four positions.
The rear PTO is independently engageable and has a 1 3/8"-6 spline profile. From 1991, electro-hydraulic activation was possible. PTO speed is selectable at 540, 750 or 1,000 rpm. An optional power-shift front PTO at 1,000 rpm was also available.
The tractor features a rubber-mounted, sound and vibration isolated platform cab with air suspension seat, digital instruments, lockable doors, opening front, side and rear windows, a roof hatch, three-speed heating fan, interior lighting, windscreen washer and a height and tilt adjustable steering wheel.
