The Fendt Farmer 5S is often referred to simply as the "Farmer 5", but the official type designation is 5S. Built from 1970 to 1972, it was the most powerful tractor Fendt had produced under the Farmer name at that point. A total of 1,976 two-wheel drive units were built, alongside 1,491 four-wheel drive 5SA versions, reflecting how strong demand for 4WD already was in this class around 1970. The 5S was the last of the first-generation Farmer S series, with the Farmer 105S from the new three-digit 100 series taking over in the 65 hp class from 1972 onwards.
The gearbox offers 13 forward and 4 reverse gears, with a top speed adjustable to either 20 or 30 km/h. Standard tyres on the 2WD version are 6.50-20 front and 13.6-36 rear. The 4WD version runs 9.5-24 front tyres.
Power comes from an MWM D225-4, a liquid-cooled four-cylinder diesel with direct injection and a displacement of 3,402 cc. Key specs:
The engine features overhead valves, a cylinder block with wet liners, a five-bearing crankshaft and a Bosch multi-hole injection system. The air filter is an oil bath type.
The rear hitch has a lift capacity of 2,000 kg at the lower link. The hydraulic pump delivers 36.6 litres per minute at a working pressure of 175 kp/cm². The PTO runs at 540 or 1,000 rpm. The electrical system runs on 12V with a Bosch 1.8 hp starter motor and a Bosch 14V/11A alternator.
