The Fendt Favorit 615 was produced between 1979 and 1993 and is part of the Favorit 600 series. The internal type designation is FWA 285, referring to the LS version (rear-wheel drive) of the 615. The four-wheel drive version carries the designation LSA and falls under type T385. Within the series, various engine variants and transmission options were offered over the years, which can make sourcing parts and comparing individual machines somewhat challenging.
The Fendt Favorit 615 LS is fitted with an MWM TD 226-6.2, a water-cooled six-cylinder four-stroke inline diesel engine with turbocharger. The engine features direct injection, overhead valves, an inline injection pump with governor, a multi-hole injector and piston crown cooling. The crankshaft runs on seven bearings. The cooling system uses thermostatically controlled dual-circuit cooling with a flat-fin radiator. A dry air filter with pre-cleaner is fitted for air filtration.
The displacement is 6,234 cc. Power output is stated at 150 hp (111 kW) at rated engine speed. Maximum torque is 508 Nm at 1,630 rpm. The governed speed range runs from 650 to 2,450 rpm. Maximum injection pressure is 180 to 185 bar.
The Favorit 615 LS is equipped with a 16-speed gearbox. Top speed is 40 km/h. Thanks to the available creep gears, travel speed starts at very low values, making the tractor suitable for precision work as well.
The PTO is switchable between 540 and 1,000 rpm. At 540 rpm, the PTO runs at 586 rpm at rated engine torque, with a maximum permissible torque of 220 daN. At 1,000 rpm, the output shaft runs at 1,022 rpm at rated engine speed, with a maximum permissible torque of 260 daN. An optional front PTO with direct drive at 1,000 rpm is available, reaching 1,097 rpm at rated engine speed with a maximum permissible torque of 88 daN.
The hydraulic pump delivers 45 litres per minute. The rear three-point hitch achieves a maximum lift capacity of 5,801 kg. Permissible axle loads are 3,220 kg on the front axle and 5,430 kg on the rear axle.
The braking system consists of hydraulically operated internal shoe brakes acting on the rear wheels, usable as individual wheel brakes. Steering is hydrostatically assisted.
Standard tyre sizes are 16.9-28 at the front and 20.8R38 at the rear. The cab noise level of the revised LS series was stated at 81 dB, which was a notable result for that period compared to the earlier SL model.
A question that frequently comes up with the 615 is the difference between the LS and the LSA. The LS (Typ 285) is the rear-wheel drive version, while the LSA (Typ T385) has four-wheel drive. The engines are closely related, although the LSA differs in later versions with regard to the Turbomatik-E and the Duospeed drive system introduced in 1987. The LSA Turbo, built from 1990 to 1993, produces 136 kW and has a higher maximum top speed.
