Before switching systems, measure the rail width and the locking pin diameter on the tractor. With an adapter plate the hole pattern matters too, so take the centre to centre distance of the bolt holes and compare it with the plate's description. A ball hitch wants a lightly greased ball, otherwise ball and socket wear faster and the trailer starts to creak in corners.
An alternator that does not charge is not always faulty itself. Check belt tension, the earth strap between engine and frame and the battery terminals first. Replace it only once those are in order.
