Keep your Renault Ares 550 working with the right parts. Choose from more than 80 items here, ranging from electrics and trailer couplings to lighting.
Much of what keeps a Renault Ares 550 pleasant to work with is not the engine but the dozens of small parts around it. This page lists more than 80 new replacement parts for the Ares 550, from GRANIT and from specialist makers including Walterscheid, ROCKINGER, Cobo and MAHLE.
At the rear you can replace flange hitches, automatic drawbars, top drawbars and PTO shaft end pieces. Before ordering a flange hitch or drawbar, measure the rail width and the coupling pin on the tractor, as that is where a wrong part shows up straight away.
In the cab there are door locks, gas struts, replacement glass and telescopic mirror brackets. Rear lights and indicator position lights cover the lighting, and a cut-out switch on the starter motor makes sure the engine only cranks when it should. Under the bonnet you will find water pumps supplied with a gasket, alternators and air filters. Track rod ball joints take the play out of the steering on the Ares.
The identification plate on the tractor confirms that you are working on an Ares 550. After that, the reference number on the part you have removed is the surest way to match the replacement. For a ball joint, also check the taper on the steering arm, since a joint that sits too high or low in the taper will never tighten properly.
A water pump usually warns you before it fails, with a damp patch or dried coolant below the weep hole in the housing. Replace it at that stage rather than waiting for the bearing to rattle. Fit the new pump with its gasket, clean the mating face on the block thoroughly and refill with fresh coolant. Run the engine up to temperature with the heater open and bleed the system so that no air pocket stays trapped near the thermostat.
A blocked air filter shows up as black smoke under load and an engine that is slow to pick up. Do not knock the element out against a tyre or blow it through from the inside, as the paper tears easily. Fit a new element and wipe the housing clean first so that no dust reaches the engine side.
The Ares 540, Ares 620 and Ares 640 have their own pages, and the Ares 610 belongs to the same family. Check each model on its own page rather than assuming a part carries over. The full brand overview is under Renault parts.
