The Fendt Farmer 308 Typ 118 is the compact C line of the Farmer 308, introduced in autumn 1997 as a more affordable and compact alternative alongside the regular 300 series. The line consists of two versions: the 308 C with rear-wheel drive (type designation T 118.010, 630 units) and the 308 CA with all-wheel drive (type designation T 118.210, 1,848 units). Production ran from 1998 to 2003, after which the line was succeeded by the 308 Ci with a newer Deutz engine.
The Typ 118 is powered by a Deutz BF4M 1012 EC, a water-cooled four-stroke four-cylinder inline turbocharged engine with direct injection, charge air cooling and individual injection pumps. The engine features overhead valves, a gear-driven camshaft, oil cooler, mechanical centrifugal governor and five-hole injector nozzles. The engine block has an integrated balance shaft and three-ring pistons. Displacement is 3.2 litres, rated engine speed is 2,300 rpm. Power output is 86 hp (approx. 63 kW), maximum torque is 337 Nm at 1,500 rpm with a 35% torque rise. Maximum injection pressure is 1,200 bar.
All versions are fitted with a fully synchronised gearbox with 21 forward and 6 reverse gears (21/6). An optional 21/21 reverser transmission was available. Top speed is 30 km/h as standard, with an optional 40 km/h version. Travel speeds range from 1.28 km/h (1st gear forward) to a maximum of 40 km/h. The 308 CA has all-wheel drive; the 308 C has rear-wheel drive only.
The hydraulic system is a Fendt block-type control hydraulic with mechanical lift control (MHR) and top link sensing. The three-point linkage is category II, available on request with a quick coupler. Pump flow is 71 l/min at 180 bar. Maximum rear lift capacity is 4,420 kp. Optional front hydraulics (cat. II) are available with two working cylinders of 28 mm bore and 162 mm stroke, with a maximum lift capacity of 24.6 kN.
The PTO is switchable to 540, 750 and 1,000 rpm. A ground-speed PTO is available on request. Front and rear axle are electrohydraulically switchable.
The parking brake is an internal shoe brake. An optional compressed air braking system was available. At 40 km/h, brakes in the front wheels are mandatory. Standard tyre sizes are 13.6R24 front and 16.9R34 rear.
The 308 C has a sound-insulated cab with a noise level of 75 dB(A), an air-suspended seat and tinted glass. The cab was also available in a low-profile version. Standard equipment includes heating, interior lighting, a radio pre-installation, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors and rear work lights. Air conditioning and front work lights are available as options. The C series was the best-selling tractor series in Germany in 1999 and 2000.
The 308 C (2WD) carries type designation T 118.010 and was built in 630 units. The 308 CA (4WD) carries designation T 118.210 and totals 1,848 units. In 2003 the C line was succeeded by the Ci line with a Deutz BF4M 2012 C engine of 4.0 litres and 98 hp.
