Fendt Favorit 712 Vario (Type 712) specs

The Fendt Favorit 712 Vario was one of four models that launched the 700 Vario series in 1998. Between 1998 and 2003, a total of 3,160 units were built under the first generation (chassis number T 712.2.0), making it one of the more compact options in the mid-range class. The 712 sits just below the 714 in terms of output and was aimed at operations looking for a lighter tractor in the 125 hp segment.

Production and generations

The model went through three distinct generations:

  • 1998–2003: First generation, Deutz BF6M 2013C engine, ML 110 transmission, 3,160 units built
  • 2003–2006: Updated transmission to ML 130, switch from ZF to Dana front axle, pneumatic cab suspension, colour display on Varioterminal, ISOBUS-ready Variotronic, optional headland management system
  • 2006–2013: New Deutz TCD 2012 L06 4V engine with commonrail injection, four-valve technology, EDC-7 engine management

Engine

The first two generations used the Deutz BF6M 2013C, a turbocharged six-cylinder diesel with a displacement of 5,702 cc. Rated power in the first generation was 125 hp, with a boost to 135 hp. From 2003 onward, the output range moved to 125–141 hp. Torque peaked at 565 Nm at 1,400 rpm.

From 2006, Fendt switched to the Deutz TCD 2012 L06 4V with a displacement of 6,057 cc. This engine features:

  • Commonrail injection at 1,600 bar injection pressure
  • Four-valve technology per cylinder
  • EDC-7 electronic engine management
  • External exhaust gas recirculation (AGRex)
  • Rated output of 115–136 hp, already reached at 1,700 rpm for 50 km/h road speed
  • Specific fuel consumption at optimal load: 195 g/kWh
  • Fuel tank capacity: 300 litres

Transmission

All generations use the Fendt Vario continuously variable transmission. The first generation came with the ML 110, which was replaced by the ML 130 from 2003 onwards. The same ML 130 was already standard in the 714 from the start, which is one of the main differences between the two models. The transmission includes:

  • Continuously variable drive with two driving ranges
  • Continuously variable reversal with stop-and-go function
  • Cruise control (tempomat)
  • Maximum speed: 50 km/h, reached at 1,700 rpm from the 2006 generation onward

Hydraulics and rear linkage

The hydraulic output developed across generations. In the first generation (1998–2003), the pump delivered 78.5 litres per minute at 170 bar and 77.4 litres per minute at 204 bar. From 2003, this increased to 107.3 litres per minute at 200 bar and 93.8 litres per minute at 217 bar. From 2006, the pump delivers 110 litres per minute at 200 bar.

Rear lift capacity:

  • 1998–2003: 7,464 kp
  • 2003 onward: 7,268 kp
  • 2006 onward: 8,500 kp

Front linkage lift capacity:

  • 1998–2003: 3,822 kp
  • 2003 onward: 4,526 kp

Standard equipment includes two double-acting control valves with cross-switch or joystick operation. Up to five double-acting control valves can be fitted as an option. All valves can also be used single-acting.

PTO

The rear PTO runs at 540, 540E, 750 and 1,000 rpm.

Front axle and suspension

The front axle on the first generation is a ZF APL-2000 F6 load-switching pendulum drive axle with central driveshaft and level control. From 2003, Fendt switched to a Dana front axle. The axle is hydropneumatically suspended with a nitrogen membrane accumulator and can be locked. Four-wheel drive engagement and differential lock are automatically activated and deactivated depending on steering angle and road speed.

Dimensions and weight

The 2006–2013 generation measures:

  • Length: 4.67 m
  • Width: 2.52 m (2.43 m in earlier data)
  • Height: 2.86–2.96 m
  • Wheelbase: 2.83 m
  • Operating weight: approx. 6,170–6,605 kg depending on generation and equipment
  • Maximum permissible total weight: 9,500 kg

Cab

The integrated safety cab is soundproofed and vibration-dampened, with a measured interior noise level of 72 dB. It is tiltable and includes:

  • Three-stage heating
  • Air conditioning
  • Adjustable steering column
  • Air-suspended seat
  • Digital displays and onboard computer
  • Roof hatch
  • Pneumatic cab suspension (from 2003)

The Variotronic system manages rear linkage, PTO, hydraulics, four-wheel drive, differential lock, engine speed and cruise control from a single operating system. From 2003, the Varioterminal received a colour display and the Variotronic became ISOBUS-compatible.

Difference between the 712 and 714

A question that comes up regularly is how the 712 compares to the 714. The main differences are rated power (125 hp versus 140 hp), maximum permissible total weight (9,500 kg versus 11,000 kg) and lift capacity. Both models share the same Deutz BF6M 2013C engine block in the early generations, but with different tuning. The first-generation 712 used the ML 110 transmission, while the 714 was already equipped with the ML 130 from the start. In terms of dimensions, the 712 is slightly narrower at 2.43 m compared to 2.55 m for the 714.
