A beacon on a push-on mount only stays steady while the spring in the holder keeps its tension. Once that spring weakens or rusts, the beacon shakes on rough tracks and sooner or later the base or lens cracks. Replace the spring as soon as the beacon sits loose. Check the plug for corrosion at the same time, as that is a common reason for a beacon that keeps cutting out.
On a dual-line air brake system, the red connector head serves the supply line. When its rubber seal splits, you hear a hiss with the tractor standing still, and the trailer brakes start to respond less sharply. Replace the seal or the whole head before it gets worse. Keep the covers closed when nothing is coupled so that dirt stays out of the lines. When hitching up, connect the yellow head first and the red one second, and reverse that order when unhitching, so the trailer stays braked throughout.
A tank cap that no longer seals gives itself away with a smell of diesel or a damp rim around the filler neck. Often only the O-ring has hardened and the cap itself can stay. For the floor, rubber mats hose clean easily, velour ones make the cab feel warmer.
