Fendt 516 Vario Typ 438 parts

Diesel sometimes leaves the tank faster than the tractor burns it, and on outlying fields or with an open machinery shed that happens more often than anyone likes. For the Fendt 516 Vario Typ 438 there is a lockable fuel filler cap, which also suits a number of John Deere tractors. It is one of more than 300 parts on this page, all of which belong to this version.

Give the lock a drop of lock oil or a puff of graphite now and then, especially before winter, as dust and damp make the barrel stiff. Keep the spare key in a fixed place in the workshop rather than in the cab. When fitting a new cap, replace the O-ring as well, which is available on its own.

How do you know you have a 438?

The Typ number is on the identification plate. Only if it says Typ 438 are you on the right page. For another version, see the Fendt 516 Vario Typ 416, and to see everything for the model in one place, go to the Fendt 516 Vario. If the plate can no longer be read, the reference number on the old part is your safest guide.

What else is there?

On the outside there are left and right mirrors that fit the Fendt mirror rod, amber beacons with the spring for the holder, and springs for the mudguards. At the rear there are Wabco coupling heads and the cover that closes off the head. In the cab there are push button switches, gas struts and rubber floor mats. Around the engine there are seals, including Elring, front cover gaskets, O-rings, sensors and discs.

Why bushes get overlooked

This page also lists bushes. They are small parts, but in a pivot or hinge they decide how much play develops. A worn bush lets the pin wear oval, and then you are replacing the pin and sometimes the eye as well as the bush. So when you grease up, feel whether any pivot has movement in it. Replace the bush as soon as you notice play, and the pin with it if it already has a step or groove. Put grease through the nipple straight after fitting so the new bush does not start dry.

Also in the Fendt 500

If another tractor from the Fendt 500 stands next to your 516 Vario, the pages for the Fendt 512 Vario, Fendt 513 Vario and Fendt 514 Vario are worth a look. Mirrors, lamps and many wear parts are often shared there. For every other model there is Fendt parts.
