A good share of what wears out on a Typ 833 in daily use sits in the electrical system and the cab. Alternators are often replaced too soon. Start by checking the drive belt tension, the earth strap between engine and chassis, and the plug and charging cable on the alternator itself. A loose or corroded connection produces the same symptoms as a failed unit. If the alternator really has to go, disconnect the negative battery terminal before undoing the charging cable, and clean every contact surface before fitting the new one. Compare the flange and the position of the terminals with the old unit, and the replacement will bolt straight on.
