Fendt Farmer 311 (Typ 198) specs

The Fendt Farmer 311 (Typ 198), also known as the 311 LSA, was produced between 1984 and 1993. During that period, four technical versions were built: the rear-wheel drive T 198.010 (171 units, 1984–1988), the four-wheel drive T 198.210 (6,954 units, 1984–1990), the T 198.220 (626 units, 1990–1991), and finally the T 198.221 and T 198.222 (627 and 79 units respectively, 1991–1993). The rear-wheel drive version was therefore only available briefly and in small numbers. With nearly 7,000 units of the T 198.210 alone, the 311 LSA was by far the most-produced model in the Farmer 300 LSA range.

Transmission and travel speed

Until 1991, the standard gearbox was a fully synchronised Fendt overdrive transmission with 21 forward and 6 reverse gears, with fine step spacing and three separate overdrive high-range gears for both forward and reverse travel. Nine gears are assigned to the PTO range and twelve to the main working range. From 1991, the 21/21 reversing gearbox with electro-hydraulic preselection became available. Top speed is 40 km/h.

Engine

Under the bonnet sits an MWM D 226-6.2, replaced from 1988 onwards by the MWM D 226.B-6. Both are water-cooled four-stroke six-cylinder inline naturally aspirated engines with direct injection, overhead valves, pressure-fed lubrication, oil cooler, dry air filter with pre-separator, Bosch inline injection pump, Bosch multi-hole injectors and Bosch centrifugal governor with thermostatically controlled dual-circuit cooling. Displacement is 6,234 cc with a bore of 105 mm and a stroke of 120 mm. Power output was 100 hp in the original version, raised to 110 hp with the revised T 198.220 in 1990. Maximum torque was 373 Nm at 1,500 rpm, increasing to 424 Nm at 1,500 rpm in the later version.

Hydraulics and lifting equipment

Up to and including the T 198.210, a single hydraulic pump was fitted with a flow rate of 34.95 litres per minute at 130 bar. From 1990 this was replaced by a Bosch tandem gear pump delivering 39.95 litres per minute at 175 bar. Later versions offered the option of a three-circuit system with 74 litres per minute at 180 bar. Maximum lift capacity at the rear linkage was 4,840 kp in the early version and 5,130 kp in the later one. An optional front linkage with a maximum of 2,940 kp was also available.

Axles and steering

The four-wheel drive system worked until 1990 via a ZF Lenktrieb pendulum front axle type APL-345 with a side-mounted driveshaft and the Locomatik self-locking differential. From 1990 this was replaced by the ZF APL-700 F4 with electro-hydraulic control and four switching positions. The rear axle is a portal-type construction with bevel gear drive and a switchable multi-disc differential lock. The rear-wheel drive version used a Fendt pendulum front axle with individual wheel suspension, a steering angle of 47 degrees and a pendulum angle of 15 degrees.

PTO

The rear PTO is independently engageable with a 1 3/8"-6 spline profile. PTO speed is selectable at 540, 750 or 1,000 rpm. From 1990, an optional dual-speed front PTO at 540/1,000 rpm was also available.
