The Fendt Farmer 409 Vario (Typ 409) is the entry-level model of the Farmer 400 Vario series, built from 1999 to 2006. It is the smallest of the four models in the 400 series, with the Farmer 410 Vario sitting directly above it in the lineup. Like the rest of the series, the engine was revised at the end of 2003. The tractor comes standard with four-wheel drive, hydraulic wet disc brakes and power steering. The cab has heating as standard, with air conditioning available as an option. One notable difference compared to the 410, 411 and 412 is the slightly more compact width and lower cab height.
The 409 runs the stepless Fendt Vario transmission with a speed range up to 50 km/h forward and 40 km/h reverse. The hydraulic pump delivers 74.9 litres per minute. The rear hitch has a lift capacity of 6,569 kg (category III). The rear PTO is independent and runs at 540, 750 or 1,000 rpm. A front PTO at 540 or 1,000 rpm was optionally available.
Power comes from a Deutz BF4M2013, a liquid-cooled four-cylinder turbodiesel with 16 valves. The specs:
