The Fendt Favorit 12S was built from 1970 to 1972 in Marktoberdorf. It was the top model of the S-series and the first Fendt to break the 100 hp barrier. Between the 2WD version (Favorit 12S) and the 4WD version (Favorit 12SA, internal type designation FWA 183), only 195 units were built in total, making it a rare tractor. The 4WD version was by far the most commonly sold variant. The Favorit 612S followed as its successor in 1972.
The Favorit 12S runs a MWM D226-6, a liquid-cooled six-cylinder diesel with direct injection and dry cylinder liners. Displacement is 6.2 litres and output is 110 hp (82 kW) at 2,300 rpm. The Favorit 10S and 11S still used a MWM 225-6 with 5.1 litres displacement; the move to the 6.2-litre MWM 226-6 was a clear step up. The engine uses a two-circuit cooling system and a dry air filter with a monitoring device. The fuel tank holds 129.8 litres (34.3 gal).
A hydraulic turbo clutch was fitted as standard, allowing smooth, jerk-free starting without clutch wear. The rear PTO runs at 540 or 1,000 rpm.
The standard gearbox is a fully synchronised ZF T-335 II with 16 forward gears and 8 reverse gears. An optional creeper gear package was available, bringing the total to 20 forward gears. Steering is hydrostatic and linkage-free, remaining operational even with the engine off. The front axle on the 4WD version is a ZF APL-3050 with planetary drive and pendulum construction. Brakes are wet disc brakes.
The rear hitch uses an automatic ZF regulation hydraulics system type KR-25 with 6 control functions: raise, lower, draft control, position control, float position, and stepless mixed regulation. The three-point linkage is Category II and the lifting capacity is 4,150 kg at the lower link ends.
