In the hydraulic system you will find bushes and pins, for example for a double acting cylinder. For trailer braking there are Wabco connector heads. Engine and control electronics are covered by pressure switches, such as the one on the fuel filter head, and by potentiometers for the hitch linkage. A practical point on the air couplings: keep the dust covers closed when no trailer is attached. Grit in the coupling head wears the seal and lets air escape.

The hitch potentiometer reports the position of the lower links to the electronics. After replacing one, the hitch control usually has to be recalibrated, otherwise the linkage will not lift or lower to the set height. When a fault appears, check the plug and the operating rod first, because a loose ball socket on the lever produces the same symptoms as a failed potentiometer. Gas struts last longer when fitted with the rod pointing down, which keeps the seal lubricated.
If the pressure switch on the fuel filter head raises a warning, change the filter and check the plug before suspecting the switch. A blocked filter often triggers the alarm for good reason, and a new switch will not cure that. Cracked holders and covers are worth replacing early, before a loose part rattles itself to pieces.
