Hitch parts for the Claas Axion 950 and heavy trailers

An Axion 950 often pulls the heaviest trailers on the farm or in a contractor's fleet. The hitch feels every one of those loads, and that is what the more than 50 parts on this page are about. They come from Scharmüller, Walterscheid and ROCKINGER, three names you will see on the back of many large tractors.

From Pick-Up Hitch to ball hitch

Underneath the rear axle, many tractors in this class carry a Pick-Up Hitch, a hook system that you lower and raise with the linkage hydraulics. There are inserts for that hook, so you can convert it to suit the coupling on your trailer. You will also find:

  • drawbars and inner parts for the rail of the drawbar frame
  • ball hitches and screw-in ball adapters for trailers with a ball socket
  • an automatic flange hitch and a Piton Fix for drawbar eyes
  • adapter plates to set a ball or jaw at the right height
  • forced steering parts for trailers with steered axles

Coupling safely with the Pick-Up Hitch

With a Pick-Up Hitch, a lot depends on the lock. After raising the hook, always check that it sits in the locked position before you drive off. Clean the guide and mechanism after work in mud or manure, because caked-on dirt can stop the lock from engaging fully. A worn hook or insert shows itself through a bore that has gone oval or a sharp edge where the drawbar eye keeps rubbing. When you screw a ball onto a screw-in ball adapter, tighten it with a torque wrench to the maker's figure and check it again after the first runs with a full trailer.

On forced steering systems, grease the ball joints on the rods at every service and check the lock. A rod with play makes the trailer lag in corners and wears the tyres on the steered axle.

Choosing the right fit for the Axion 950

Check the type plate to make sure it is an Axion 950. For drawbars and inner parts the rail width decides what fits, and for a ball or flange hitch it is the hole pattern of the mounting. The number the maker stamped into the old part takes you quickly to the same replacement. The other Axion models have their own pages: the Claas Axion 800, Claas Axion 810, Claas Axion 820, Claas Axion 830, Claas Axion 840 and Claas Axion 930. Each one shows what fits that model. The full Claas range is under Claas parts.
