How long a forklift engine lasts is decided at service time. For the Linde H25 with diesel or LPG drive there are more than 70 matching parts from GRANIT, GRAMMER, HELLA, FEBI and Stabilus, and many of them belong on the bench at every routine service.
For a full service on an H25, lay out an air filter, a safety cartridge and, on the diesel, a fuel filter. Add a few hose clamps, because a clamp that has seen years of heat often snaps just as you undo it. After fitting a new fuel filter to a diesel engine, the system has to be bled. Keep pumping until fuel without bubbles comes from the bleed screw, otherwise the engine will run rough or stall.
The safety cartridge sits inside the main filter and is never cleaned with air. If you see dust on the clean side of the outer element, renew the cartridge as well.
When a hydraulic line weeps at a fitting, a new cutting ring is often the cure. Always use a fresh ring when remaking a joint. A used cutting ring has already bitten into the pipe and rarely seals a second time. Do not overtighten the nut, as that deforms the pipe and the leak stays. A crankshaft seal is available too.
A gas strut that is losing pressure lets a hatch or cover drop when you least expect it. Replace it as soon as it no longer holds up on its own. When fitting a crankshaft seal, check which way the lip faces and press it in squarely with a suitable drift. A seal that sits crooked or whose lip folds over will leak again after a few hours of running.
