Replacing lights on the Massey Ferguson 1080? Lighting is one of the groups among the more than 110 parts collected here for this 1000 series model.
The Massey Ferguson 1080 belongs to the 1000 series, and a lot of them are kept going by owners who do their own spanner work. This page collects more than 110 Massey Ferguson 1080 parts, all new and supplied by GRANIT, GRAMMER, Eaton, PROBOSS and Cobo.
Copper sealing rings for the injection nozzles and seals for the feed pump cover the fuel side. Flame glow plugs and heating elements help on cold mornings, and there are gaskets for the water pump and elsewhere on the engine. V-belts drive the alternator and water pump, and an alternator is available if the old one has stopped charging. If a flame glow plug does nothing, check the small fuel line feeding it, since no diesel means no flame however new the plug is. Tension a new V-belt so it only gives a little when pressed midway between the pulleys.
Whenever an injector comes out, fit a new copper washer. The old one has been crushed and work hardened, so it will not seal again and combustion gas will start blowing past the injector. Make sure the old washer is not stuck in the bottom of the bore, because two washers stacked on top of each other will leak.
The driver seat is often the first thing to go on a well used 1080. Here you can choose from tractor seats and seat units, mechanical or air suspended, from GRAMMER and PROBOSS. With an air suspended seat, check that the cab has a power supply for the seat compressor.
Rear lights and light housings keep the tractor visible on the road. A tank cap that no longer seals lets water and dirt into the diesel, so it is worth replacing before problems start. Pins and bushes cover pivot points, such as the pin for the top cross. Replace pin and bush together, as a new pin in a worn bush has play from day one. A dim rear light is more often a bad earth than a bad lamp.
Check the type plate first to confirm it says 1080. Many 1000 series parts, gaskets and light housings among them, carry a cast or printed reference number that you can match with the numbers shown with the item. For an alternator, also compare the mounting and the pulley with the bracket on your engine.
Other tractors from the brand are grouped under Massey Ferguson parts, so you can carry on from there if you run more than one.
