Lighting and electrics are two of the groups listed for the Massey Ferguson 245 from the 200 series. In all, this page holds more than 180 parts for this model.
Oil under the lift cover, a starter that turns over sluggishly or a rear light that has given up: anyone running a Massey Ferguson 245 knows the list. It is a straightforward tractor that you can keep going yourself in the workshop with the right parts. This page holds more than 180 Massey Ferguson 245 parts, from GRANIT, Eaton, HELLA, VICTOR REINZ and Perkins.
A good share of the work on this tractor comes down to sealing. There are gaskets, including one for the lift cover, seals for the lift arm shaft, O-rings for the lift piston and a rear crankshaft seal. For the engine there are sealing rings for the injection nozzles.
A tip for fitting a new lip seal: wipe the lip with a little clean oil before fitting and press the seal in square with a suitable drift or a length of tube. A seal that goes in crooked or dry will often weep within a few hours of running. Check the running surface on the shaft too, as a groove there will quickly ruin the new seal.
For the starting system there are starter motors and glow start switches. An oil pressure switch lights the warning lamp when oil pressure drops. If the lamp comes on while the engine sounds healthy, check the switch and its wire before looking any further. Lighting is covered with rear lights, indicator and position lights and number plate lights.
You will also find radiator hoses for top and bottom, clutch plates and thrust bearings for the front axle. Pins, such as the one for the top link cross, are included as well. Pins like these slowly wear oval and then put play into the three point linkage.
A radiator hose that feels hard, or soft and swollen, is better replaced before it splits. Use new clamps and bleed the system after refilling.
Check the data plate on the tractor and compare the reference number on the old part with the details on the product. On a tractor of this age it pays to clean the old part first, so you can compare the number and the shape properly.
Massey Ferguson placed the 245 within its 200 series. Other models from that series have their own page with their own selection:
