Electrics, lighting, steering and front axle form the core of the range for the Massey Ferguson 4270. In total, more than 350 parts for the 4200 series.
A slow start on a cold morning, a seat with tired suspension, a weeping seal: familiar complaints on a Massey Ferguson 4270. This page brings together more than 350 replacement parts for the MF 4270, from GRANIT, Cobo, Eaton, GRAMMER, DANA Spicer and others.
For the cab there are tractor seats from GRAMMER and a PROBOSS seat, plus mirrors, headlights, work lamps and gas struts. Rocker switches for the dash, such as the work lamp switch, are available too.
A starter motor for the 4270 is available here. Before you swap it, though, check the battery and the cables. A poor earth strap or a corroded battery terminal produces exactly the same symptoms as a worn starter. Measure the voltage at the starter while someone cranks the engine. If it drops sharply, the fault is more likely in the wiring than in the starter itself.
Fit a sealing ring with a suitable drift, or use the old ring as a pusher, so it goes in square and evenly. Lightly oil the lip first and inspect the shaft for a worn groove. If there is one, the new ring will soon leak as well.
The type plate tells you whether the tractor is a 4270. Within the 4200 series many parts look similar without being the same. For sealing rings and O-rings, use the reference number on the old part as your starting point and compare it with the details given for the item.
Adjust a new tractor seat to your weight before the first run. Suspension set too soft will bottom out, while a setting that is too firm passes every bump straight to your back. Gas struts that no longer hold a door or window open should be replaced as a pair, so both sides push evenly.
These tractors from the same series each have their own page: the Massey Ferguson 4255, the Massey Ferguson 4245, the Massey Ferguson 4235, the Massey Ferguson 4225 and the Massey Ferguson 4260. The rest of the make is gathered at Massey Ferguson parts.
