With more than 400 items, this page covers the Massey Ferguson 5425 from the 5400 series in depth, from electrics and lighting to trailer couplings.
More than 400 replacement parts fit the Massey Ferguson 5425, from a rocker switch in the dash to the plates inside the PTO clutch. Here you will find parts from GRANIT, Scharmüller, HELLA, MAHLE and GRAMMER for the electrics, the drive, the cooling system and the cab.
If the PTO slips under a heavy load, or keeps turning when it is switched off, the plate pack is a likely cause. For the 5425 there are external and internal plates for the PTO clutch, plus O-rings and sealing rings that are worth renewing during the same job. Replace the plates as a complete pack rather than only the one that looks worn. Measure the pack thickness on removal and compare it with the figure in the workshop manual. Blue discolouration on the steel plates means the pack has overheated. In that case check the piston seals too, as a leaking seal puts too little pressure on the plates.
The fan clutch controls how hard the cooling fan is driven. If the fan roars on a cold engine, or stays lazy when the engine is hot, the clutch is due for replacement. There are also alternators and aircon compressors for this model, and mirrors, gas struts and tractor seats for the cab.
Rocker switches sit in the dash, for example for the rear work lamps, with an indicator light that shows they are on. The ignition has a contact switch that can start to stick after years of use. For lighting around the tractor there are work lamps, including spot versions. At the rear there are drawbars such as a K80 version.
Check the type plate first, as the tractors in the 5400 series look alike from the outside. With the old part in your hand, compare the number on it with the reference number shown with the product. With clutch plates, also count them and note the order of internal and external plates as you take the pack apart.
Every model in the 5400 series has its own page, which helps when several Masseys work on the same farm:
The 5450 and 5470 also belong to this series. Every other model is on the Massey Ferguson parts page.
