More than 400 parts make this page a solid starting point for the Massey Ferguson 6260. Among them are electrics, trailer couplings and lighting.
On a Massey Ferguson 6260 with plenty of hours behind it, the jobs that come up tend to involve the PTO clutch, the front axle and the cab. This page lists more than 400 parts for the 6260, from small seals through to a complete drawbar.
The type plate confirms the model. With seals and clutch plates, put the old part next to the details of the item and check inner diameter, outer diameter and thickness. If the old part carries a number, include it in the comparison.
For the PTO clutch there are internal and external plates. In the front axle you will find adjusting plates for the bevel gear, used to set backlash and tooth contact. Universal joints cover the propshaft, and ball joints the steering, with DANA Spicer and GRANIT supplying much of the driveline side.
When you rebuild the PTO clutch, replace the plates as a full set and soak the new internal plates in clean oil before assembly, so they do not run dry when the clutch is first engaged. With the adjusting plates, measure the thickness of the old shims, use that as your starting point and check the backlash again once everything is bolted up.
Leaks are dealt with by sealing rings, O-rings and seals, for instance the seal for the tank sensor or the ring on the rear window lock. There are starter motors, contact switches, rocker switches and push button switches for the dashboard, and HELLA work lamps such as a square spotlight for built-in mounting. Gas struts hold the rear window open, and Scharmüller and Cobo supply drawbars for the rear hitch.
A starter that turns slowly is not always the culprit. Measure battery voltage while cranking, and check that the heavy cables and earth connection are clean and tight, since a corroded terminal eats more cranking power than you might expect. If the starter spins but the pinion does not engage, replacing it is the quickest fix. Universal joints and ball joints are worth a quick check for play at every greasing, before a worn joint starts sending vibration through the propshaft.
