Plenty of choice for the Massey Ferguson 6280: more than 450 parts, including electrics, trailer couplings and steering and front axle components.
With more than 450 parts listed, the Massey Ferguson 6280 is well covered. Parts come from GRANIT and from Scharmüller, HELLA, DANA Spicer and Cobo. Here is how it breaks down by area of the tractor.
Internal and external plates are available for the multi plate packs in the driveline. Always replace them as a full set and soak new plates in the correct oil for a while before assembly. A dry plate has nothing to protect its friction surface during the first engagements and may glaze. While the pack is open, inspect the pressure plate and springs for heat discolouration or distortion, and count the plates in the old pack so you order the right number.
Sealing rings, seals, PTO O-rings and manifold gaskets deal with leaks on a 6280. A blowing exhaust or inlet manifold gasket is often heard before it is seen, as a ticking noise from a cold engine that fades as it warms up. Tighten the manifold bolts in the correct sequence and recheck them after the first heat cycle.
A starter that drags on a 6280 is often just a victim of tired battery clamps or a corroded heavy cable, so clean and tighten those connections before condemning it. When a dashboard switch only works some of the time, look at the plug on the back before replacing it, since a corroded contact is often the real cause. Rear window struts are best replaced in pairs so the glass is held evenly.
Ball joints for the steering are available. Replace a joint promptly if its dust boot is torn, because grit and water will wear it out fast. Bushes for the lift arms take the slack out of the linkage, and drawbars are available for the rear.
The type plate confirms the model. For clutch plates and sealing rings, the number on the old part is the safest reference to compare with the details shown for each product.
Each tractor in this series has a page of its own: Massey Ferguson 6245, Massey Ferguson 6255, Massey Ferguson 6260, Massey Ferguson 6265, Massey Ferguson 6270 and Massey Ferguson 6290. That makes it easy to look up parts for another 6200 on the farm. For every model from this make, visit Massey Ferguson parts.
