The PTO clutch is covered with internal plates, external plates and adjusting plates for setting the clearance. Always replace the plates as a full pack, even if some still look usable, and soak the new plates in clean transmission oil for a while before assembly. Then measure the pack height and set the clearance with the correct adjusting plates. Too little clearance makes the clutch drag, too much lets it slip under load.
The PTO is operated with push button switches, including the yellow external control on the fender. Sensors and relays make sure the signal gets through. If you suspect a relay, swap it with an identical one from another circuit. If the function then works, you have found the cause. Rocker switches, work lamps and mirrors are here as well.
At the rear there are rail-mounted drawbars. Under the bonnet there are alternators, and for the powershift and hydraulics O-rings, sealing rings and seals, including the seal for the fuel tank sensor. Fender pivots are available too, so a rattling fender can be made solid again.
With a rail-mounted drawbar, check the rail width and pin size so the new hitch fits the existing guide. If you smell diesel in or around the cab, look at the seal of the fuel sensor on top of the tank. A dried-out seal is quickly replaced and keeps dirt out of the fuel. A work lamp that mists up inside usually has a damaged seal and will not last long after that.
Check the type plate to confirm it is a 6455. With clutch plates, compare the teeth and the count against the pack that comes out, and with an alternator compare the flange and plug. If there is a reference number on the old part, use it.
