More than 450 parts fit the Massey Ferguson 6460 from the 6400 Series. Electrics top the list for this tractor, followed by trailer couplings and lighting.
The PTO clutch on the MF 6460 runs wet, with friction plates in oil. If the PTO snatches when engaging or the speed drops off under load, those plates are usually the first place to look. There are more than 450 Massey Ferguson 6460 parts on this page, and the clutch is a sensible place to begin.
For the PTO clutch there are internal and external plates. Always replace them as a full set and measure the thickness of the old plates so you can see how far they have worn. Look at the pressure plate and housing too, because blued or warped steel plates mean the clutch has been running hot. Soak new friction plates in clean transmission oil for a while before fitting. Soak new plates in oil before assembly, because a dry plate may be ruined on the very first engagement. Powershift O-rings, sealing rings and seals are also available.
Inside the 6460 cab there are push button switches, rocker switches and relays for the electrical functions. A switch that no longer makes clean contact is often a simpler fix than it looks, because you only replace the switch, not the loom. You will also find gas struts, mirrors including one for keeping an eye on the trailer hitch, and sensors such as the glow plug temperature sensor. Work lights are here as well, among them HELLA spotlights.
For hitching there are drawbars from Scharmüller and other makers, and pivot points for the fenders. If the charge light stays on or the battery keeps going flat, there are alternators, but check the earth strap and battery clamps first. Other brands on this page are GRANIT, DANA Spicer and GRAMMER.
Check the rating plate to confirm you have a 6460. Many tractors in the 6400 series look the same, but parts are matched per model. Massey Ferguson often puts a reference number on the part itself, for instance on a sealing ring or a clutch plate, so you can compare it with the item before ordering.
The other models in this series each have their own page:
The 6445 and 6485 also belong to this series. For all other models, see the Massey Ferguson parts page.
