The Massey Ferguson 6480 from the 6400 series has more than 500 parts in this overview, including electrics, trailer couplings and lighting.
A 6480 that spends its days on a mower or a baler will sooner or later need fresh plates in the PTO clutch, so that is a good place to start. This page has internal and external plates for the PTO clutch alongside more than 500 other Massey Ferguson 6480 parts, all available to order online.
When the PTO slips under load, or the transmission oil turns dark and smells burnt, the plates are usually worn out. Replace the internal and external plates together. New internal plates against glazed external ones will never bite properly. Soak the plates in clean transmission oil before fitting so they do not run dry on the first start, and check the O-rings and sealing rings in the clutch pack while it is open. Those are on this page as well. Take a photo of the pack before you strip it, so you know exactly how the internal and external plates alternate when it goes back together.
The parts are made by GRANIT and by manufacturers such as Scharmüller, HELLA, GRAMMER and MAHLE. They are new parts from those brands, not Massey Ferguson dealer parts.
Within the 6400 series a lot of parts look alike at first glance. The reference number stamped or printed on the old part is the safer guide, and the data plate confirms that your tractor really is a 6480. With an alternator, lay the old unit next to the new one and compare the mounting lugs and the plug. With a V-belt, width and length are what count.
If you run another tractor from the same series, each one has a page of its own, which helps with a mixed fleet: the Massey Ferguson 6465, the Massey Ferguson 6475, the Massey Ferguson 6460, the Massey Ferguson 6455, the Massey Ferguson 6470 and the Massey Ferguson 6490. The 6445 and 6485 belong to the series too. For everything from the brand, go to Massey Ferguson parts.
