Massey Ferguson 765 parts for gaskets, clutch and linkage

Keeping the engine oil tight

Oil seeping from a Massey Ferguson 765 rarely comes from just one place. This page brings together more than 100 parts that fit the 765, and a good share of them deal with exactly that problem. There are gaskets for the lift housing block, valve cover gaskets and sealing rings for the valve cover, cylinder head gasket sets and crankshaft seals. Stud bolts for the cylinder head and valve springs are available for a more thorough top end job. Names you will recognise include VICTOR REINZ, LUK, Eaton and Perkins, alongside GRANIT.

When the head comes off, inspect every stud. A stretched stud will no longer hold the correct clamping force, and even a new head gasket will start to weep. Tighten the head in stages and in the correct sequence, working from the centre outwards.

Clutch and drive

Splitting the 765 is a big job, so do everything at the joint while it is open. Replace the pilot bearing and the rear crankshaft seal together with the clutch. A leaking rear seal contaminates a new clutch plate, and the pilot bearing is out of reach until the tractor is split again.

Three point linkage and front axle

  • Lift arms for the rear linkage.
  • Adjusters and yokes to set the lift rods.
  • Tension springs for the controls.
  • Thrust bearings for the front axle with the standard axle.
  • Radiator hoses and a silencer for cooling and exhaust.

Lift arms and adjusters on a 765 that has pulled a heavy plough for years take a beating. When you replace them, check the pins and holes they pivot in as well. A new arm on a worn pin still has play, and the implement will hang crooked or sway behind the tractor. Front axle thrust bearings show their wear through heavy or notchy steering, which is easy to check with the axle jacked up and the wheels turned from lock to lock.

Getting the right part first time

Start with the type plate to confirm that the machine is a 765. For gaskets and seals, the part you remove is a far better reference than any tape measure. Rather than measuring rubber that has been squeezed for years, look for a stamped or printed reference number and compare it with the details on this page. On the front axle, check that your tractor uses the standard axle, as the thrust bearings are matched to it.
