Massey Ferguson 8737 parts: cooling, electrics and trailer coupling

A thermostat that sticks, a starter relay that clicks and does nothing, a trailer that hisses every time it is hooked up. Those are the jobs that bring an owner of a Massey Ferguson 8737 to this page. There are more than 130 new replacement parts listed for this tractor, from GRANIT and from makers such as HELLA, SACHS, DANA Spicer and Scharmüller.

Parts groups for the 8737

  • Cooling: thermostats with their seals and temperature sensors, one of them for the air conditioning.
  • Electrics: relays such as a starter relay with holder, pressure switches and push button switches, including the fender switch that raises and lowers the linkage.
  • Engine and belt drive: tensioning pulleys and O-rings, for example the ring under the oil filler cap.
  • Cab and body: heated mirrors, number plate lights, fender springs and the seal for the door handle.
  • Hitching: drawbars, screw ball adapters, forced steering parts and connector heads for the trailer air brakes.

Matching the part to your tractor

Start with the serial plate and confirm it really says 8737, because the tractors in the 8700 range look very similar from the outside. The old part is your next source. Thermostats, sensors and relays nearly always carry a stamped or printed reference number, and that number can be checked against the details given with each product. For mirrors and lamps the mounting decides it: arm, bracket and plug have to line up with what is on the cab.

Workshop tip for thermostats and air couplings

Always fit a fresh seal with a new thermostat and bleed the cooling system properly after refilling. An air pocket at the thermostat housing makes the gauge climb even though the new part works fine. On the trailer couplings, the red head is the supply line. If the system hisses with the trailer attached, the leak is usually the rubber seal in the head or dirt on the mating face. Close the dust flap whenever the trailer is unhooked.

When it will not crank or the linkage will not respond

If the starter relay clicks but the starter motor does not turn, the relay itself is a prime suspect. Swap it for an identical relay from a circuit you can do without for a minute. If the tractor then cranks, you have your answer. Look at the blade terminals on the holder as well, because corrosion there produces the same symptoms. The push button switch on the fender lives in mud and spray. If the linkage only responds now and then, clean and dry the plug behind the button before you replace the switch itself.
