Massey Ferguson 8740/S parts for the seat, cooling and rear hitch

On a Massey Ferguson 8740/S the hours show up first in the places you deal with every day. The seat loses its spring, a radiator hose goes soft, a work light takes a knock from a branch. More than 150 new replacement parts are listed for this tractor, with names like GRANIT, GRAMMER, Wabco, HELLA and Scharmüller among the makers.

Seat and cab

For the driver seat there are shock absorbers and handles for adjusting the horizontal suspension or the damper. The right damper depends on the seat model, which you will find on the label under the cushion. LED work lights and the door handle seal keep the cab bright, dry and quiet.

Engine bay and cooling

  • radiator hoses, such as the top hose
  • temperature sensors, including one for the transmission oil temperature
  • pressure switches on the engine
  • tank caps and plugs for the hood

Rear end and hitching

Behind the cab there are drawbars, trailer pins, screw ball adapters and forced steering parts such as an insert for the Pick-Up Hitch. Connector heads for the trailer air brakes and the fender spring are part of the list too.

Work lights and sensors

An LED work light rarely just dies. More often the trouble is moisture in the plug. When fitting a new lamp, put a little dielectric grease on the pins and tighten the bracket firmly, because a light that vibrates loosens its connection sooner. If the transmission oil warning comes on, check the temperature sensor and its plug before suspecting the gearbox. A sensor with a broken wire or a loose connector sends the same signal as oil that really is too hot. A pressure switch on the engine can be ruled out the same way.

Getting the right part first time

Check the serial plate to make sure the tractor really is an 8740/S. Then read the number on the part you took off, whether it is moulded into a hose or printed on a sensor body, and compare it with the details on the product. A quick test for radiator hoses: squeeze them with the engine cold. A hose that feels spongy or has a bulge is due, even before it starts to weep. Swap the clamps at the same time. For the seat shock absorber, make sure the mounting eyes sit in the same position as on the old one.

The Massey Ferguson 8737 from the same 8700 range has a page of its own with the parts for that tractor. Every other Massey Ferguson model can be reached from Massey Ferguson parts.
