Several hitch systems can be fitted to an Arion, and each uses its own parts. A drawbar with a ball sits in a drawbar frame and works with ball hitches and a ball insert. An automatic hitch takes trailers with a drawbar eye and closes with a coupling pin. Piton Fix is designed for heavy trailers. The Pick-Up Hitch and flange hitch sit on the hitch frame, and a top drawbar mounts higher on the tractor. Adapter plates, including a height adjustable one, and support plates set everything at the right height. For trailers with a steered axle there are forced steering parts.
A ball coupling should always be greased so the trailer socket turns smoothly and does not gall. Measure the ball from time to time. If it has worn noticeably out of round or smaller, replacing it is safer than carrying on. On an automatic hitch, check the coupling pin for wear and make sure the return spring snaps it home cleanly.
A trailer with forced steering only tracks properly when the rods are correctly adjusted and the ball joints have no play. After replacing any part, drive in a straight line and check that the trailer follows directly behind. If it pulls to one side, a rod length is off or a ball head is not seated right. Poorly set steering wears out trailer tyres quickly.
