Keep your Massey Ferguson 185 working with more than 350 matching parts. Vintage parts, lighting and electrics for the 100 series are gathered on one page.
Keeping an MF 185 working comes down to the basics: cooling, clutch, exhaust and seals. This page lists more than 350 replacement tractor parts for the Massey Ferguson 185, made by GRANIT and by brands such as LUK, Eaton, Cobo and KS.
The type plate confirms you have a 185. On a tractor that has been modified over the years, the old part is often a more reliable guide than the plate. Look for a reference number on seals, gaskets and the starter motor. With a starter motor, also count the pinion teeth and measure the hole spacing on the flange so the new unit lines up with the clutch housing.
For the clutch there are double clutch assemblies and clutch plates. If you are splitting the tractor anyway, do everything that wears in one go. Along with the double clutch and plate, fit a new release bearing and inspect the flywheel for scoring and blue heat marks. A new plate on a damaged flywheel will soon start slipping again. Before ordering, count the splines on the shaft and measure the hub of your old plate, because that is where clutch plates differ.
Around the engine there are water pumps with their gaskets, radiator hoses including the top hose, a feed pump, an exhaust manifold, silencers and starter motors. Never fit a new water pump without a new gasket, and clean the mating face on the block thoroughly. Leftover gasket material is the usual reason a freshly fitted pump starts dripping again.
You will also find sealing rings for the front axle, seals for the lift arm shaft, O-rings and wheel bearings, plus headlight inserts and rear lights.
Replace wheel bearings as a set per wheel, inner and outer together, always with a new sealing ring. Press the outer races in square, use clean grease, then adjust so the wheel turns freely but shows no play when you rock it top and bottom. A front axle sealing ring reused during this job will often start leaking within a season.
If you also run another tractor from the same range, see the pages for the Massey Ferguson 148, Massey Ferguson 152, Massey Ferguson 175, Massey Ferguson 178 or Massey Ferguson 188. Each of those pages shows the parts listed for that model. The full overview is under Massey Ferguson parts.
