Massey Ferguson 250 parts

On plenty of farms a Massey Ferguson 250 still earns its keep, doing yard work and lighter field jobs. To keep it running there are more than 140 replacement tractor parts that fit it, from GRANIT, Eaton, VICTOR REINZ, KS and LUK.

Cold starts and the engine

If your 250 struggles on a frosty morning, check the flame glow plug first. It only works when fuel reaches it, so inspect the feed and the sealing rings on the fuel line for leaks or air. For the engine itself there are complete pistons, piston ring sets and gaskets such as the one for the rear cover. Before ordering rings, find out which cylinder liners your engine has. Some ring sets are made only for cast iron liners and should not go into anything else.

Clutch, linkage and front axle

  • clutch plates for the driving clutch
  • seals for the lift arm shaft
  • pins for the top link cross and balls for the lower links
  • thrust bearings for the front axle
  • rubber buffers and an oil pressure switch

Lights for road work

There are rear lights, indicator and position lights, and headlight inserts. Once a lens cracks, moisture gets in, the reflector dulls and the beam fades. Fitting a fresh insert is usually quicker than trying to restore the old one.

Oil pressure and front axle

If the oil pressure light comes on at hot idle, do not assume the worst straight away. Fit a gauge in place of the switch and measure the real pressure first. If that reads fine, a new oil pressure switch is often all it needs. When the 250 steers heavily, or creaks as you turn the wheels with the front end jacked up, the front axle thrust bearing is the first suspect. A fresh bearing packed with grease makes the steering light again.

Getting the size right

The 250 is part of the Massey Ferguson 200 series. The serial number on the type plate helps narrow things down, but the part number on the old component, a seal or gasket for example, is the surest lead. Type it into the shop search and the right replacement appears. With a clutch plate, count the hub splines and check the diameter before you order.

Other models in the 200 series have their own pages too, so if there is more than one on the yard, order for each tractor from its own page:
