The 5400 series page for the Massey Ferguson 5450 runs to more than 190 parts. Electrics, trailer couplings and lighting are three of the groups you can browse.
Pulling heavy trailers with a Massey Ferguson 5450 loads two places harder than the rest: the clutch pack and the drawbar. That is where this page begins. There are more than 190 parts here that fit this type, with brands such as Walterscheid, ROCKINGER, GRANIT, HELLA and Scharmüller.
Internal plates and external plates for the clutch are both available. Before fitting new friction plates, soak them in the correct oil for a while so the lining is fully saturated. Plates assembled dry can slip or glaze in their first hours of work. Replace the pack as a set and inspect the steel plates for blue heat marks or distortion.
At the rear there are drawbar balls and complete drawbar frames from Walterscheid and ROCKINGER among others. A worn ball shows itself as slack and knocking when you pull away or brake. Check the locking mechanism and keep the ball lightly greased. After fitting a new drawbar frame, go over the mounting bolts again after the first few days of work and bring them back to the specified torque, because the mating faces settle under load.
For the cab you will find handles, knobs, mirrors and gas struts for the rear window, plus a sealing ring for the rear window lock. On the electrical side there are work lamps, rocker switches with an illumination indicator, push button switches and relays. An aircon compressor and a tank cap complete the list.
Before the compressor comes out, the refrigerant has to be recovered by someone with the proper equipment. It must not be vented, and a new compressor lasts longer when the system is evacuated and recharged properly afterwards.
Read the type from the rating plate and keep the reference number of the old part to hand. With clutch plates, note the number and order of plates in the pack, and with a drawbar, the rail width.
Massey Ferguson placed the 5450 in its 5400 family alongside several sister models. These types from that series also have their own page: 5425, 5435, 5445, 5455, 5460 and 5465. The 5430 and the 5470 are in the series too. Do not assume parts are shared between these types, but order for the tractor in your yard. The rest of the make is on the Massey Ferguson parts page.
