Trailer couplings, electrics and lighting are some of the groups for the Massey Ferguson 5609. More than 160 parts fit this model from the 5600 series.
An MF 5609 from the 5600 series spends its day going between the yard and the field. This page holds more than 160 replacement parts for it, from GRANIT, Scharmüller, Walterscheid, HELLA and ROCKINGER.
A sticking thermostat makes the engine run too hot or too cold. You can test one that has been removed in a pan of water on the stove with a thermometer, watching for the moment it opens. Alongside thermostats there are temperature sensors, seals, sealing rings and O-rings.
If turning the key gives just a click, the start relay is a common culprit, and relays with holders are listed here. A tip: use a multimeter to check whether voltage reaches the relay control terminal when you turn the key. If it does and the relay does not switch, the relay is faulty. If nothing arrives, look at the push button switches and the wiring.
Check the serial plate to confirm you have an MF 5609. For clutch plates, measure the inner and outer diameter and the thickness, and for a relay look at the number of pins and the connector. The old part often carries a reference number you can compare with the product page.
Ball hitches wear on the ball and on the latch. Keep the ball lightly greased and make sure the locking mechanism closes properly after coupling up. Fit a roof hatch gas strut with the rod facing down so the seal stays lubricated. A work lamp with a damaged seal is worth replacing early, because moisture in the housing attacks the contacts and the reflector.
For the clutch, replace internal and external plates together as one set and soak the new ones in clean transmission oil before fitting, so they never run dry on the first engagement.
