When the four wheel drive clutch on a 6616 starts to slip, or the dash flags a fault on a speed sensor, the parts you need sit deep inside the tractor. For the 4WD clutch there are external and internal plates. Alongside them you will find inductive sensors, such as the one for transmission speed, and temperature sensors. Then there are O-rings, including ones for the PTO, sealing rings, adjusting plates and seals, right down to the seal on the cab door handle.
If you are rebuilding a plate pack, soak the new friction plates in the same oil the transmission runs on before you assemble them. Plates fitted dry tend to judder or glaze in the first hours. Look at the steel plates too. Blue heat marks or warping tell you how hot the pack has been running and whether the steels should be renewed at the same time.
A fault code from an inductive sensor does not always mean the sensor has failed. Metal fines on the tip are enough to upset the signal. Wipe it clean and check the plug for green corrosion before ordering a new one. If the fault stays, replacement is the next step.
