Steyr 4145 Profi CVT parts for hitching, charging and sealing

The way a 4145 Profi CVT is set up at the back decides which trailers and implements it can pull, so hitch hardware takes up a good part of this page. Identifying the right part

Steyr offered several models in the Profi CVT line that are hard to tell apart from the outside, so read the serial plate before you order. For hitch components, measure the rail width of the existing guide and the diameter of the locking pin. For an alternator or a sensor, the reference number on the housing of the old part is the quickest way to a match.

Hitch height matters more than many drivers think. If the trailer drawbar runs at an angle, the ring eye works crooked in the jaw and wears on one side. An adapter plate or a repositioned top drawbar brings it back to level and spares the eye, the pin and the guides.

Engine and cab

Under the bonnet there are temperature sensors, alternators, an aircon compressor and a rear crankshaft seal. For the cab there is a main mirror, the part that tends to get clipped in a narrow gateway. A rear crankshaft seal is a bigger job, as the tractor has to be split, so it makes sense to inspect the clutch side and the flywheel while everything is apart.

A word on alternators. When the charge light comes on, check the simple things first: belt tension, the battery terminals and the earth strap between engine and chassis. A corroded earth can make a perfectly good alternator look faulty. If the alternator really is the problem, disconnect the battery before you remove it, note where each cable goes and clean the terminals before fitting the new unit. A loose main cable on the B+ post will burn and can take the new alternator with it.
