Steyr T 84 enthusiasts will find more than 50 vintage parts for this model here. Useful whether you are restoring your tractor or just want it to run reliably.
A Steyr T 84 is the kind of tractor people keep for the sound of it as much as for the work. This page lists more than 50 parts from GRANIT and METARO that fit the T 84, for keeping one running or for bringing it back after years in a barn.
For a full rebuild there are piston sets, inlet valves, exhaust valves, valve guides and connecting rod bearings. Sealing is covered by a cylinder head gasket set, a crankshaft sealing ring and a further gasket set, so you can do the whole engine in one go rather than patching it piece by piece.
A tip for valve work: renew the valve guides whenever the old ones have play. A new valve in a worn guide will not seat properly and wears the seat unevenly. Lap each valve into its own seat with a little grinding paste until you see an even grey ring all the way round, and keep every valve with its own cylinder from then on. Clean everything thoroughly before the head goes back on, because any paste left behind does real damage inside an engine.
A working glow plug makes cold mornings much easier, and there is one here. For cooling there is a radiator. Rubber sleeves for the fuel line and a sealing ring for the tank cap keep the fuel system tight, so neither air nor dirt finds its way in.
A restoration only feels finished when the tractor looks right again. For that there is a left fender, a seat cushion and a lower silencer, which bring back the familiar outline of the T 84. If you paint the fender, key the edges and prime it before fitting, so rust gets less of a chance around the mounting holes.
On a tractor this old, plenty has usually been replaced over the decades, sometimes with parts from other types. Always compare the old part with the new one. Check the plate, look for a stamped number on the old part and, when in doubt, measure, for instance the diameter of a seal or the length of a valve.
If there are other Steyr tractors in your shed, you will find them through Steyr parts, where every type has its own page showing only the parts that fit it.
