More than 450 parts fit the Massey Ferguson 6470. They are sorted here by group, with electrics, trailer couplings and lighting among them.
PTO work and heavy trailers are where a Massey Ferguson 6470 takes its hardest knocks. This page holds more than 450 parts for the 6470, from GRANIT and from brands such as Scharmüller, HELLA, DANA Spicer and GRAMMER.
There are internal and external plates for the PTO clutch. If the PTO slips under load or engages with a bang, the plate pack is the first thing to look at. Always renew the internal and external plates together, and soak the new friction plates briefly in clean transmission oil before assembly so they do not run dry on first engagement. While the clutch is open, inspect the O-rings and sealing rings around the piston. A hardened ring loses pressure and will wear out a fresh plate pack just as fast. O-rings, sealing rings and seals for the 6470 are on this page too.
For towing there are drawbars, including units from Scharmüller. The electrical side includes alternators, relays, push buttons, rocker switches and sensors, such as a temperature sensor for the preheating circuit. Work lamps come partly from HELLA, for example a square spotlight for recessed mounting. Around the cab you will find mirrors, gas struts and pivots for the fender.
A tip on gas struts: fit them rod side down. That keeps the internal oil on the seal and the strut holds its force for longer. Replace them in pairs, otherwise the window or door twists as it opens.
A weak alternator shows itself as a battery that struggles after a few days parked, or a charge light that glows at idle. Measure the charging voltage at the battery posts and check the earth cable before replacing the alternator itself.
Start with the serial number on the type plate, then check the reference number on the old part. That matters for clutch plates and alternators in particular, where different versions look almost the same from the outside but differ in bore or flange. With plates, measuring the thickness of the old one settles any doubt.
