Case IH 2140 parts for clutch, front axle and steering

Depending on its age, the type plate on this tractor says either Case IH 2140 or IHC 2140. It is the same machine, and every part on this page is matched to it. There are more than 70 in all, from GRANIT and from makers such as LUK, Carraro, Cobo and Walterscheid.

Clutch work

On a 2140 with plenty of hours behind it, the clutch is often the first big job. Here you will find clutch plates, complete clutch kits, double clutch pressure assemblies, internal plates and thrust bearings. A rule worth following: if the tractor is being split anyway, always replace the thrust bearing. It costs little next to the labour, and a bearing that starts whining a few months later means splitting it all over again. With a double clutch, take a look at the PTO side as well, since it sits in the same pack.

Steering, front axle and lighting

Play at the steering wheel usually comes from worn joints. For the 2140 there are ball joints and axial joints, bushes for the steering box and steering cylinder, bearing bushes and front axle seals. For the Carraro front axle there is also an axle housing bearing. V-belts, sealing rings, headlights and a flasher unit complete the picture.

After fitting new ball joints, check the toe-in. Even when the new joint is screwed in by the same number of turns, the setting often ends up slightly out, and the front tyres will show it soon enough.

A singing or knocking noise from the front axle is not always the joints. A worn bearing in the axle housing or a dry bush can sound much the same. Jack up the front, grip the wheel top and bottom and rock it. Then have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth while you watch the track rod. That tells you whether the play is in the hub, the kingpin area or a joint, and which part to order.

Matching the part to your IHC 2140

The type plate confirms the model. For the axle and clutch, the old part helps too. The front axle often carries a Carraro number, while a clutch plate or pressure assembly usually has a manufacturer number on it. Compare that reference number with the product details and you know the size and splines match. For bushes and bearings, measuring beats guessing.

The Case IH parts page brings every model of the make together, which helps if another Case IH or IHC tractor works alongside the 2140 and you want to order for each machine separately.
