More than 400 parts make this page a solid starting point for the Case IH CS 78. Lighting, trailer couplings and electrics for the CS series come first.
The Case IH CS 78 is well covered here, with more than 400 parts from GRANIT, Scharmüller, HELLA, ROCKINGER and MAHLE. With that many items it helps to know which part of the tractor you are working on, so here is a quick guide by system.
If the battery is no longer charging, an alternator is the obvious place to start. In the cab there are rocker switches, for instance for the powershift, and push button switches for the linkage. Work lamps, partly from HELLA, and indicator position lights complete the lighting.
Before you blame the alternator, check the V-belt tension and the earth strap between engine and chassis. A slipping belt or a poor earth produces the same warning light as a failed alternator. Disconnect the battery before you fit the new one.
For towing there are drawbars and automatic hitches from Scharmüller and ROCKINGER, among others. Height adjustable adapter plates let you set the hitch at the right height for your trailer. Check the pin and jaw of an automatic hitch for wear now and then. A worn pin lets the trailer eye knock when pulling away and braking, and a little grease on the mechanism keeps it locking reliably.
For the engine you will find feed pump O-rings, gaskets, injector sealing rings and seal kits. On the cooling side there are radiator hoses and a water pump gasket. Fit fresh clamps with every new hose. Gas struts hold the roof hatch open. Fit them rod down so the seal stays lubricated and the strut keeps its force longer. Thrust bearings are available for the clutch, and one belongs in every clutch job even if the old bearing still runs quietly.
The type plate confirms if you have a CS 78. For alternators and switches, compare the reference number on the old part with the numbers shown with the item, since plugs and brackets can vary.
Within the Case IH CS series every model has a page of its own. If you also work on one of these tractors alongside your CS 78, you will find the parts for that type there:
