When the clutch on a New Holland TL70A starts to slip or squeal, splitting the tractor is the only way in. More than 200 replacement parts are listed for the TL70A on this page, and the clutch and gearbox side is a good place to start.
You will find clutch plates, a single clutch pressure plate and thrust bearings, partly from LUK and Eaton, plus gear wheels for the gearbox. Because splitting takes so much time, replace the plate, pressure plate and thrust bearing together. A tired bearing left in place is the usual reason a tractor has to be opened up again a year later. Inspect the flywheel too. Blue spots or fine cracks in the friction face mean it should be skimmed before the new plate goes on.
Oil on the piston rod, or a linkage that slowly sinks with an implement attached, means the lift cylinder seals are worn. Replace the outer seal and the piston ring together and look for scoring on the cylinder wall, since a scored wall will ruin new seals quickly.
V-belts and powerbands are classic wear items. Shiny flanks or fine cracks mean the belt is already slipping. A new belt stretches a little in its first hours of use, so check the tension again after a short while.
On the Piton Fix and the automatic drawbar, keep an eye on the locking mechanism. A worn locking pin lets the insert rattle and wears the rail. A little grease on the sliding faces keeps everything moving freely.
The type and serial number are on the identification plate. For clutch parts, compare the diameter and spline count of the old plate with the new one. For sealing rings, use the number moulded into the old ring. That way you avoid having the tractor split in the shed with a part that does not quite fit.
