Also known as the IHC 553, the Case IH 553 has more than 350 parts here, including classic tractor spares and lighting for this older tractor.
Plenty of people still call the Case IH 553 by its older name, IHC 553, and that is usually the name stamped next to the reference number on the worn part. This page carries more than 350 new replacement parts that fit this tractor, from a single O-ring up to a full cylinder head gasket set, made by GRANIT alongside VICTOR REINZ, LUK, HELLA and GRAMMER.
For the clutch there are clutch plates and thrust bearings. Fit a new thrust bearing whenever the plate comes out. It is a small part next to the labour of splitting the tractor, and if the old bearing starts to whine a few months later, the whole job has to be repeated. While the clutch is apart, look at the flywheel face too. Scoring or blue marks point to slipping, and a new plate alone will not cure that.
An IHC 553 that leaks oil or has lost compression rarely needs just one gasket. You will find pistons, connecting rod bearings, the head gasket set and individual gaskets such as the camshaft gasket, plus the rear crankshaft seal and the fuel pump seal. Once the engine is open, replace every seal you can reach, because an O-ring that has been disturbed seldom seals properly again.
On the head gasket itself, clean both faces thoroughly, check the head for flatness and torque the head bolts in the specified sequence over several stages. Whether they need re-torquing after the first warm run depends on the gasket type, so check before the rocker cover goes back on for good.
Ball joints for the steering rod, sealing rings for the brake housing, water pumps, headlights, indicator and position lights and fenders complete the picture for getting the tractor safely back on the road.
Start with the type plate to confirm you really have a 553. With the old part in your hand, look for the stamped IHC number and compare it with the details shown for the product. For a clutch plate, count the splines in the hub as well, and for a ball joint check the taper and the thread.
