One thing worth knowing about the cap: if its breather is blocked, the tank pulls a vacuum and the engine dies after a while as if the fuel filter were clogged. Checking a ball joint is a two person job: one rocks the steering wheel gently from side to side while the other holds the joint and feels for play.
