The front linkage is operated with push button switches, such as the green button for lowering. The bonnet is held up by gas struts, and when it drops on its own in the wind or on a slope, they have had their day. Before you condemn an alternator, check the tension and condition of the V-belt and make sure the battery terminals and earth strap are clean and tight.
