Electrics and lighting are two of the product groups you will find for the John Deere 3030 from the 30 series, in a list of more than 120 parts.
A John Deere 3030 that will not fire up after a cold night in an open shed is a familiar story. That is why the parts for this tractor include standard starter motors and a gear reduction starter, a glow start switch and injection nozzles. Charging is handled by an alternator, with more than one version available. In total more than 120 parts fit the 3030, from GRANIT, MAHLE, GRAMMER, HELLA and VICTOR REINZ.
If the starter turns slowly, measure battery voltage while cranking and check the earth strap and the connections on the starter first. A corroded earth gives exactly the same symptoms as a worn starter. If the starter itself is at fault, a gear reduction unit makes a strong replacement because it turns the engine over on less current. Always disconnect the battery negative before working on it.
For the engine there are cylinder head gaskets, air receiver gaskets and a fuel feed pump. Cooling is controlled by a thermostat. When you fit a new one, renew the housing gasket and bleed the cooling system properly afterwards. In the seat area you will find seats, including a mechanical Compacto, and tractor seats from GRAMMER. HELLA headlights, tank caps and a hand brake band complete the picture. Once a new brake band is in, adjust it until the hand brake holds the tractor on a slope.
Black smoke, poor starting or a hard knock from the engine can all point to a nozzle that drips or sprays badly. Have the nozzles tested and set by a diesel specialist, and replace them as a set so every cylinder runs evenly. New copper washers go under the nozzles when they are refitted. If coolant keeps disappearing without a visible leak, or you see white smoke and bubbles in the radiator, suspect the head gasket and check the head for flatness before it goes back on.
The type plate confirms you have a 3030. With starters and alternators, compare the number of teeth, the direction of rotation and the flange against the old unit. For gaskets, go by engine type. A reference number on the old part makes the choice even more certain.
