When a fan clutch no longer locks up, it shows itself as an engine that runs hot under heavy load while the radiator is clean. A quick check is to turn the fan blades yourself once the tractor has stood long enough to cool down. If it keeps turning with almost no resistance, or there is oil around the clutch, it is time for a new one.
When you replace an injection nozzle, always fit a new sealing ring underneath. A flattened old ring no longer seals, and combustion gases then blow past into the nozzle bore. After working on the fuel system, use the hand pump to bleed the system until clean, diesel without bubbles comes out at the bleed screws.
A blocked vent in the tank cap is an easy fault to miss. As fuel is drawn off, a vacuum builds in the tank and the feed pump struggles. The engine loses power after a while of work and recovers as soon as the cap is opened. A new vented tank cap cures it, and the lockable version also discourages diesel theft from the yard. For the valve gear, fit new bushes and shims together when the rocker shaft is apart, since worn bushes let the rockers tilt and wear the valve tips unevenly.
