From electrics and lighting to trailer couplings, the John Deere 5090M page gives you more than 400 parts to choose from, all matched to this 5M series model.
A slow start on a cold day, a battery that no longer charges or an engine that runs hot all point to the same corner of the 5090M: starter, alternator, belts and cooling. This page carries more than 400 parts for this model, from GRANIT, HELLA, Sauermann, MAHLE and Wabco.
There are starter motors and gear reduction starters for the 5090M, plus alternators. Before you replace a starter, measure the voltage right at the starter while someone cranks the engine. If it drops a long way, the battery or an earth cable is the more likely cause. Micro relays belong here too, because a weak relay can produce exactly the same symptoms and takes seconds to swap.
Multi-rib belts are available on their own and as belt kits. When fitting a new belt, also replace the tensioner if it is noisy or has play, otherwise the new belt soon runs out of line. For cooling there are fan clutches. A simple check: with the engine warm and switched off, spin the fan by hand. If it keeps turning with almost no resistance, the clutch is no longer engaging and the radiator gets too little air on hot days.
For the engine and brakes there are gaskets, such as the air receiver gasket, and O-rings like the one for the master brake cylinder. For the cab there are door gas struts, headlights, LED work lamps and bushes. At the rear you will find ball drawbars and connector heads for trailers with air brakes.
Keep the dust caps on the air connector heads closed whenever no trailer is attached. Otherwise dirt goes straight into the trailer brake line the next time you couple up.
Start with the model and serial number on the type plate. A starter motor or alternator carries its own plate with a reference number, which is the quickest way to compare. On an alternator, also check the connections and pulley, and on a multi-rib belt count the ribs.
Other models from the 5M series have their own page: the John Deere 5070M, John Deere 5085M, John Deere 5095M, John Deere 5100M, John Deere 5105M and John Deere 5115M. The 5075M belongs to the same series. On each of those pages you see only the parts for that specific tractor. Every other tractor of the make is under John Deere parts.
