More than 650 items fit the John Deere 6120 from the 6020/6020SE series. Trailer couplings, lighting and electrics are neatly sorted by product group.
A 6120 that has spent years with a plough or cultivator on the rear linkage shows it in the lift arms and bushes. More than 650 John Deere 6120 parts fit this tractor, and the linkage is a good place to start.
If a lift arm has play, look at the bushes first. A bush worn oval lets the arm move sideways and the implement hangs crooked. Always renew the bushes on both sides at once and grease them after fitting so they do not run in dry. Lift arms are listed for the left hand side, for example.
At the rear there are drawbar balls, automatic drawbars, drawbar frames in John Deere green and forced steering parts. For the tractor's own steering there are ball joints. To check them, have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth with the wheels on the ground. If a joint visibly moves in its housing it is worn out, and after replacing it the toe-in needs resetting.
The belt drive is covered by belt kits for tractors without air conditioning and multi-rib belts for tractors with it, so the right one depends on how your tractor is equipped. There are also alternators, work lamps from HELLA and others, hose by the metre, O-rings such as the one for the tank sender, regulator housing gaskets and external plates for the ZF front axle.
An alternator that hums or whines usually has a worn bearing. Take the belt off and spin the pulley by hand, and roughness or play is obvious straight away. Cut hose from the roll square and fit new clamps. If you smell diesel around the tank, look at the tank sender O-ring, which hardens with age and starts to weep when the tank is full.
The type plate confirms you are working on a 6120. For a lift arm check left or right, for a belt the number of ribs and the length, and nearly every part that comes off carries a reference number to compare against. Brands include GRANIT, HELLA, ROCKINGER, Sauermann and Wabco.
